About the instructors:
Catherine Nash's love of travel and different cultures has inspired her to live, research and teach on four continents. Perhaps most inspiring were two research trips to Japan, where she studied the techniques of Japanese woodblock printing and papermaking and as well her research on Western papermaking through varied mills in Scandinavia, Italy and France. She received a B.F.A in Printmaking and Drawing from the University of New Hampshire and an M.F.A. in Mixed Media from the University of Arizona. Nash has been on the faculty of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute since 2003. In addition, she has taught advanced workshops in drawing, encaustic painting, Western/Japanese handmade paper, sculptural paper casting and sculptural artist books across the U.S., as well as in professional studios in eight European countries, Canada, Japan and Australia. Her art has been exhibited internationally.
Zoë Goehring owns and operates Cave Paper, a production-scale hand papermaking studio specializing in durable, decorated sheets. In addition to the Cave catalog, she designs and produces custom papers for many fine edition presses, artists, and businesses. Her studio practices emphasize sustainability, and in 2022 she was awarded a Sustainable Earth Small Business Award for her focus on alternative water systems and sustainable water use in the studio. Alongside production work, she explores paper pulp as an artistic medium. She holds a Bachelor of Humanities and Art from Carnegie Mellon University with concentrations in Fine Art and Creative Writing, and has an extensive background in organic agriculture as well.
