Intro to European Hand Papermaking

$125.00

When: 10 AM - 4 PM, with one hour break for lunch

Where: Cave Paper, 846 N. Stone Avenue, Tucson AZ

In this introductory workshop, you will learn the basics of European/Western hand papermaking: fiber preparation, sheet formation, drying, and flattening. We will begin with a brief history of this style of papermaking as well as a walk-through of our production facility, while the bulk of our time will be spent on sheet formation.

You will learn to work with flax, abaca, and recycled cotton fibers to form sheets of paper in a variety of sizes and weights. The sheets of paper you make are yours to keep! Please note that due to drying time, your paper will be ready to take home at a later date.

All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary.

Attendees should be prepared to get a little messy. We will provide waterproof aprons, and we advise you to bring crocs or other waterproof shoes, as well as clothing you don’t mind getting damp and pulpy.

Weather permitting, we may set up our work tables outside in the shade.
