Intro to Pulp Painting

$125.00

When: 10 AM - 4 PM, with one hour break for lunch

Where: Cave Paper, 846 N. Stone Avenue, Tucson AZ

In this class, we will build upon the basics of European/Western style hand papermaking while exploring the wonderful world of art-making with pigmented pulp. We will discuss fiber choices, processing, and additives to consider when preparing materials. Students will be introduced to a range of tools and techniques for mark-making and building an image with pulp.

Provided pulps will include abaca and recycled cotton in a variety of colors and consistencies. You are welcome to bring your own objects for stenciling and masking (make sure they are water resistant — cookie cutters work particularly well!) to supplement the tools we provide.

All experience levels welcome!

Please note that due to drying time, your paper will be ready to take home at a later date.

Attendees should be prepared to get a little messy. We will provide waterproof aprons, and we advise you to bring crocs or other waterproof shoes, as well as clothing you don’t mind getting damp and pulpy.

Weather permitting, we may set up our work tables outside in the shade.
